I am happy to announce that I will be doing a presentation on working large in encaustic at the Montserrat College Encaustic Conference in June, 2010.

TWO WORKSHOPS for artists wanting to work larger !

TWO workshops this fall perfect for people with more encaustic experience:
Many people stay at a certain level with their encaustic painting because they see working at a larger scale as intimidating. It does present certain challenges, but when you understand how to overcome them, it can be a richly rewading experience. In both of these workshops we will address all aspects of working larger, from the planning and drawing stages, through preparation of the surface; understanding temperature control and how it facilitates working larger, handling color and glazing, as well as advanced special
effects, and finishing.

More About Encaustic Painting: Going a Little Larger May 22-25,2010

MORE ABOUT ENCAUSTIC PAINTING:
going a little larger
May 22-25, 2010
This four day wax encaustic workshop will cover all the basics, but the emphasis will be on enabling you to refine your encaustic techniques, and to move a little farther with your encaustic painting. Along with learning how to make paint, about supports, and techniques: paint application, fusing, glazing inscribing and mixed media approaches, we will emphasize how these techniques can be developed to create a unique encaustic language for each student. This small workshop (no more than 6), is designed for people with some previous encaustic experience, and students can work up to 24" x24" on their own cradled panels.

Beyond Beginning: Going Large Fall 2010

This five day workshop is a unique opportunity for artists who are already working in encaustic to experience the joy of seeing there work on a larger scale, or to attempt any other expansion of their vision which they might like to pursue. We will address the special design and technical considerations involved in working on a larger scale, from sketch to finishing. We will meet prior to the workshop to discuss artist's ideas, and how they can be translated into a large scale encaustic painting. For out of town artists, we can do this by email. You will learn how to take your idea from a small painting to a large, and which ideas can be executed most successfully. Consideration of grids as a way to work larger. Participants may work up to 36” x 36” on their own panels, or on a multi panel grid painting.
